Trump & Canada/EU

The fact that President Trump has called a potential Canada-EU association (*not* full membership) a "hostile act" and "laughable" is yet another example of Trump's fascist mind. Simply put, the United States executive branch and all his cronies are opposed to the free and democratic world.

I worry that a Democratic party win in the primaries will trigger some kind of violent power grab by an aspiring dictator who has already failed to transfer power peacefully. Trump has all the authoritarian identity markers, a cult-like Christian following, and an increasingly unhinged personality. This should remind us, yet again, that Trump is America's version of one 1930s fascist dictator. And just like in 1930s Germany, many in the Church are complicitly going along for the ride.

The time for Christian neutrality is long past. Even as Canadian Christians, we must remember our prophetic voice and hold power accountable. The wind often blows the American seeds of extremism north. Although we are experiencing unprecedented unity in our country, we must remain vigilant and root out religious nationalism. We must never allow ourselves to become a tool of fascism.
